Expected, But Still Shocking Mail

A week ago today I opened up our mailbox and pulled out the lone piece of mail: A selective service registration card for my son.

My first reaction was a casual, "oh, I've been expecting this." Then reality set in. My son is turning 18. He will be able to vote (please do!) and get a tatoo without his mother's permission. (Please don't.)

He can sign his own release forms if he does anything like horseback riding, (okay) or skydiving (umm, maybe not.)

He is ready to fly the coop and live a life of his own.

But as his mommmy, I will always worry about him.

And I'm not even going to go into the feelings of the potential of having a son on the battlefield. (No matter how good he is at Battlefield 2!)

He wants to fly the coop? But he seems so comfortable at home...

I said he is ready, as in-Likely or about to do something. Why would he really want to leave. He has 24 hour maid service here!
