Busy

"It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?" - Henry David Thoreau

It's been a while since I've blogged. My lame excuse is that I've been busy. "But what are we busy about"????

Random things...

It's a girl! My grandbaby is now officially declared a granddaughter. She's only 9 ounces now, but September will be here before we know it. I need to go pink shopping.

St. Louis is not as cool a town as San Antonio is. Has anybody been to San Antonio? It is one of the prettiest downtowns I've ever been to. Last month I went there with Bryan and chaperoned his band. Last weekend I chaperoned Joshua's band in St. Louis. The arch is cool, the zoo is smelly, Union Station is awesome. Grissom's bands came in first, Mt. Gap came in first and second, in their respective competitions. On the San Antionio trip I spent over 36 hours on the bus. On the St. Louis trip it should have only been 16 hours total, but one of our buses broke down (we lost a tire rim-wierd I know) so it ended up being a total of 22 hours.

I've been handling Bryan's upcoming graduation fairly well. I haven't really cried yet. (I get weepy at this kind of thing!) Being at his last competion, his last band concert, his last banquet has really brought forward those feelings that he will be leaving home soon. And I've been very composed. Okay, maybe some teary eyed moments, but no kleenex usage. I guess I should plan on bringing some kleenex to graduation!

I don't like bugs. Joshua is working on a bug collection for his science class and he doesn't like bugs either. Thank goodness Grandpa found a lot of them. So guess who gets to help him identify them? These creepy crawlies give me the heebie jeebies. The worst ones? Big grasshoppers and cockroaches. Yuck!

Seminary is coming to a close. Only two days left. Ever. It's official that I will not be returning next year. I told the bishop I was just tired of being tired. Somebody asked what I thought my next calling might be. I answered, "grandmother!". But once a seminary teacher, always a seminary teacher. I will be happy to substitute at a moment's notice. And Josh wants me to come back when he is in seminary. We'll see.

For Bryan's graduation present, we got him a new Dell computer. As he was upgrading ram and video cards, we reminded him that this computer is for college work, not gaming.

Bryan has learned that if you don't finish your seminary make-up work, you can't find the power cord to your new computer. And if you miss a day of seminary, somehow that cord disappears again! I think the power cord may come up missing yet again during finals week.

Fifty years is a long time to be married, and married happily. We celebrated my in-laws' fiftieth anniversary yesterday. It was a surprise that was pulled off with a lot of lying involved.

My contribution to the big 50th party was preparing a slide presentation. I had lots of fun reminiscing as I went through years and years of photographs. Note to self: Get photographs organized and accessible!

There's still lots of things not checked off on my to do list including:
*addressing and sending out graduation announcements
*planting the tomatoes and flowers that I bought a week ago
*organizing and packing up all my seminary stuff
*making cupcakes for one last seminary birthday
*working on a scrapbook for a friend's missionary son who comes home in June
*making reservations in Provence, France, and buying train passes
*cleaning the house, doing laundry, etc.
*wrapping up band parents president duties
*helping Josh finish the bug project due on Wednesday
*going shopping with Becca
*getting plane tickets so Kristen can come home this summer!
*updating my blog
(Oh wait I just did that! Check that one off!)
